Pain brought me to mindfulness, not any desire to reach nirvana or pop out of any chrysalis. I had to unlearn certain habits and thought patterns hard-wired in my brain and walk through my pain, rather than avoiding it. Ultimately this is what put me on the joyful journey of self-discovery. I finally grew up.
I was raised in an emotionally repressed family and a culture that encouraged me to look outside myself for happiness and fulfillment. Feelings were never talked about. I had to suppress my emotions to be accepted, causing me to feel alone and isolated at a very young age. I developed a lack of trust and feelings of abandonment, feeling unworthy and unlovable.
I struggled with:

- Never felt ‘good enough’
Desperate for approval and acceptance, I became the best overachiever you”ve ever seen! This was a great coping mechanism when I was a kid, but as an adult, it quickly turned into severe workaholism. It wasn’t just about paid work. I just had to be busy, constantly; volunteering, housework, kid’s activities, etc…. I lived my life like a conveyor belt. Anything to distract myself from the nagging discomfort I felt deep inside and too afraid to feel.
Sometimes I had mood swings that took me over and made me a completely different person! I was totally disconnected from myself and had no idea what was wrong with me. But like a “good soldier” I put on a good face, kept quiet and kept working until my next emotional breakdown.
When I was younger I gained confidence and found my life’s purpose in helping others improve their lives. I worked with recovery programs for 26 years mentoring, speaking, moderating discussions, holding workshops. But I continued to suffer because I hadn’t dealt with my deepest core issues.
Meditation, mindfulness, breathwork, sound healing, and brain training were the game changers!
These became my most valuable tools to control my thoughts, heal emotionally and physically, and learning how to regulate my emotions.
